BolusCalc calculates a suggested insulin bolus based on inputs such as target (desired) blood glucose level, an individuals carbohydrate-to-insulin ratio, an individuals blood glucose-to-insulin ratio, current blood glucose level, carbohydrate intake (meal, if any) and upcoming exercise level (if any).

Use this calculator only on advice from your physician. Your physician will provide you with a target blood glucose level, a carbohydrate-to-insulin ratio (also known as carbohydrate factor) and a blood glucose-to-insulin ratio (also known as correction factor). This method for calculating insulin doses is not suitable for everyone.

Target Blood Glucose Level - Your desired, ideal blood glucose level. The valid range is 50 to 500 and the default value is 100 mg/dl.

Carbohydrate-to-Insulin Ratio (Carbohydrate Factor) - It is the amount of carbohydrates that your body can handle with 1 U of insulin and still keep your blood glucose level stable. The valid range is 1 to 99 and the default is 10 grams/unit.

Blood Glucose-to-Insulin Ratio (Correction Factor) - It is how much your blood glucose level drops with 1 U of insulin. The valid range is 1 to 99 and the default is 55 mg/dl/unit.

Current Blood Glucose Level - It is your most recent (less than 10 minutes) blood glucose level. The valid range is 50 to 500 and the default value is 100 mg/dl. If you enter 49 or less, the displayed value will be 49 (in red) and the suggested bolus will be 0. Consult your physician if your blood glucose is low and you feel that you still need to take an insulin bolus.

Carbohydrate Intake (Meal) - It is the amount of meal carbohydrate you just ate or is about to eat. The valid range is 0 to 200 and the default value is 0 g.

Upcoming Exercise Level - It is the level or amount of exercise youre about to perform. It can be 0=None, 1=Light, 2=Moderate or 3=Heavy. Consult your physician and take into consideration if, for example, youre going to walk, jog or run for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. The levels directly indicate how many units of insulin will be subtracted from your suggested bolus.

Suggested Bolus - It is only a suggested amount of insulin bolus, calculated based on the previous parameters. Adjust it according to your body and physician recommendation.
